Idaho Power Energy Efficiency Award – Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Event Center

The Shoshone-Bannock Hotel and Event Center was awarded with an Idaho Power Energy Efficiency Award recognizing the energy efficiency measures that went into the new Shoshone Bannock facility in Fort Hall, Idaho. The design are expected to save approximately 1,267 megawatt-hours of electricity per year—enough to power 100 homes and save more than $44,000 per year on electric bills.

Design/Build Institute of America (DBIA) Design/Build Excellence Award: PolarFab III Phase I

Dunham’s PolarFab III project has won the national Industrial, Honor Award from the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA). Dunham worked directly with Mortenson Construction to complete this project—a 90,000 SF semiconductor manufacturing addition to an existing facility, featuring 21,000 SF of ISO class 4 (or better) clean room space, gray tool space for chip manufacturing, process tool cooling system, and process gas piping from gas cabinets to the tools.

Best In Real Estate – Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal: Industrial and Warehouse Development or Redevelopment – Allina Central Laboratory

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal presented Allina Health with the 2012 Best in Real Estate Award for the Industrial and Warehouse Development category. Dunham worked with RSP Architects and Mortenson Construction to complete the project—a 62,000 SF facility that centrally locates laboratory work for 11 Allina hospitals, 49 medical clinics, 13 Aspen Clinics, 5 Quello Clinic and several specialty care centers.

Dunham Renderings Chosen as Cover Art

Recognizing Dunham as a national leader in Revit MEP, Audodesk® has chosen our renderings as the cover artwork of the recent Revit MEP®, Fabrication CADmep®, and Fabrication FABmep® software packages. Since 2007, Dunham has been providing our clients with designs developed using the Revit MEP platform.

Dunham Names Jay Rohkohl President & CEO

Dunham has named current Executive Vice President Jay Rohkohl as the firm’s new president and chief executive officer. Jay replaces current President and CEO Katy Kolbeck, who is retiring after serving in that position for more than 14 years.

“During Katy’s tenure as president, Dunham has led the way in sustainable design and remained on the cutting edge of mechanical and electrical engineering technologies,” said Rohkohl. “I’m honored to be taking the reins of such a highly respected firm, and I look forward to building on Katy’s remarkable achievements.”

Kolbeck began her career at Dunham in 1976 as an electrical engineer. She was named president of the firm in 1996 and assumed the additional role of CEO in 1998. Dunham completed numerous award-winning projects during her time as president, including a Grand Award in ACEC’s 2009 Engineering Excellence Awards competition for the LEED Platinum certified Great River Energy Headquarters in Maple Grove, Minnesota. After she retires, Kolbeck plans to travel and enjoy time with her family.

Rohkohl joined Dunham Associates in 1997 as the firm’s director of electrical engineering and has served as executive vice president for the past seven years. Prior to joining Dunham, Rohkohl spent 14 years at another Minneapolis engineering firm. He is a registered Professional Engineer in 22 states, a LEED-Accredited Professional and a graduate of the University of Minnesota’s Institute of Technology.

“Jay has the natural leadership skills and strong vision for the future to ensure Dunham continues to thrive in the decades to come,” said Kolbeck. “His dedication to our customer-centric philosophy will guarantee our clients the same high level of service and expertise they’ve come to expect from our firm.”

Dunham Associates has been implementing the change in leadership over the past 15 months to create a smooth transition for its clients and staff in anticipation of Kolbeck’s retirement. The transition will be complete when Kolbeck retires on April 1, 2011.

Dunham Elects Four New Partners

Dunham has elected four new partners to join the firm’s partner group, effective March 22, 2011: Todd Grube,Matt Jensen, Randy Olson and Greg Steinmetz.

Todd Grube joined Dunham Associates in 1995 and is a Professional Engineer and LEED-Accredited Professional. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from North Dakota State University and has 19 years of electrical engineering experience. In his role of senior associate for Dunham Associates, Grube designed lighting, power and telecommunications systems for healthcare, higher education and commercial facilities with a specialized expertise in emergency power systems.

Matt Jensen is a Professional Engineer and LEED-Accredited Professional who joined Dunham Associates in 2006. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has 17 years of mechanical engineering experience. Jensen specializes in the design of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for educational, commercial, healthcare, retail, government and correctional facilities.

Randy Olson joined Dunham Associates in 1996. He is a Professional Engineer and LEED-Accredited Professional with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mankato State University. Olson has 19 years of mechanical engineering experience with expertise in the design of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for educational, hospitality, commercial and aviation facilities. He has extensive knowledge of sustainable engineering design strategies and regularly presents to industry groups on this topic.

Greg Steinmetz is a Professional Engineer and LEED-Accredited Professional. He graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering and joined Dunham Associates in 1998. Steinmetz has 22 years of experience in the design of building mechanical systems, including the design of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems for retail, educational and commercial facilities.

Dunham Opens Rochester, MN Office

As part of its ongoing commitment to better serve clients, Dunham has opened an office in downtown Rochester, Minnesota. The new office will serve as a central service point for our clients in southern Minnesota, southwest Wisconsin and northern Iowa, and a vital hub of future growth in the region for Dunham.
