Dunham provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for a true IPD project consisting of a significant remodel and expansion of Mercy Hospital. The remodeling scope of work included the ICU, orthopedic patient rooms, lab, kitchen, emergency department, pre/post-operative recovery, and PACU. The scope of work included a 50,000 SF addition for twelve operating rooms and a central sterile processing department, a two-story 350‑stall parking ramp, a new front entry lobby for the hospital, and an expansion of the existing central utility plant. The project expanded the central utility plant by adding two new boilers, a chiller, and two new generators. The two new generators were installed and paralleled together and allowed the facility to eliminate four of their aging generators. The generators serve the entire life safety and critical systems of the hospital. Dunham worked with the Owner and the electrical contractor to develop a disruption avoidance plan that allowed the team to bring the new generator system on‑line with little interruption to the power system. The entire expansion was all constructed while maintaining complete operation of the hospital.
